GRIEF COUNSELOR

Connie Register, Grief Specialist

After 24 years in the field of grief and loss, I have embraced the position of Grief Specialist with McLane Funeral & Cremation Services since November 2018. Prior to that time, my heart for service and gift of helping grieving souls has enabled me to make a difference in the lives of Georgia Hospice families through both adult and children grief programs/camps, facilitating support groups, speaking at community presentations as well as counseling folks individually through the grief process.

I am pleased to offer this ministry to the McLane families. Families are an important part of our life story. As a hometown girl from Valdosta, I have been blessed with my husband Charlie Register and two children, Catherine Riggle (Ben) and Stephen Register (Kelly.) I am proud of my four grandchildren Ethan, Emma, Luke and Bradley.

My role as the Grief Specialist enables me to share my many years of grief experience to the families served through McLane Funeral & Cremation Services. My goal in contacting served families is to notify the bereaved of the various support options such as the "Wings of Hope" six week grief support groups, bereavement newsletters, grief website and helpful grief materials. We offer both grief and social support for the bereaved. The McLane "Social Support Group" meets twice a month for those that have already been working toward reconciliation of a loved one's death, but would benefit from social contact with others on their journey. The grief journey has no set time ~ for that reason we are here no matter what time you need us.

I am available to support the bereaved. Feel free to contact me for discussion over the phone or in person. May our "Wings of Hope" enable a bereaved heart to begin healing.

Bereavement Program: What Is It & How Do We Do It?

Definitions of grief and mourning: Everyone grieves, but not all mourn!

Grief: is the internal thoughts and feelings when someone we love dies

Mourning: is the external response to loss, taking the grief you have on the inside and expressing it on the outside of yourself (talking about that person who died, funeral, art, music, acknowledging special dates of the person's life and death.

"Grief gone public", Helen Keller quote: The only way to get to the other side is to go through the door".

Goal of Our Bereavement Program:

  • To Assist the Survivors in Interpreting Normal Grief
  • To Explore Their Coping Skills
  • To Encourage the Experience of Feelings of Grief
  • To Encourage Use of Existing Support Systems and to Build New Support
  • To Provide a Safe and Non-Judgmental Environment for Bereaved to Express Themselves
