Zipporah "Polly" Roach

January 16, 1933 — April 9, 2024

Lake Park, GA

Zipporah "Polly" Harden Roach was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 9, 2024, at the age of 91. She was born on January 16, 1933, in Laurens County, GA to the late Ralph and Etta McDaniel Harden. She was the youngest of 6 children.

She passed peacefully at home after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving daughters and two of her granddaughters.

Polly married John H. Roach on April 2, 1948 and raised her family in Rentz, GA, where she owned her own business, "Polly's Beauty Shop". She became a widow at the young age of 38 when her husband passed away in 1971.

She moved herself and her children to Valdosta where her oldest daughter was attending college. Polly began a career with K-Mart Corporation when the first store opened in Valdosta. She worked for K-Mart for over 20 years, becoming a department manager and district manager. She transferred from Valdosta to the Atlanta area in 1984.

Unlike many, she enjoyed the big city and lived there for 36 years, many of those in Dacula, GA, before moving to Lake Park to be near her family.

Once she retired from K-Mart in 1998 she worked part time for Lucent Technologies for several years. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, shopping for a bargain and gardening....but hated leaves in her yard. She was not one to sit still for long as everyone that knew her could attest to. She had many friends in the Atlanta area and was a member of several social clubs that revolved around her love of ballroom dancing. She had also made many friends in her new home in Lake Park.

Polly was proceeded in death by her husband John Roach, her son John Roach, Jr., three sisters Avis Williams, Wylene Hall, Melba Harrison, two brothers Adrian Harden and Robert Clifton "Bill" Harden who was killed in WWII, and son-in-law, Farrell Godwin.

Polly is survived by her two daughters, Vickie Godwin and Marsha Turner and son-in-law Joe Turner; four grandchildren, Casey Ingle, Whitney Corbett (Buck), Daniel Roach, Savannah Florence (Ian); four great grandchildren, Caleb Corbett, Nathan Corbett, Anders Florence, Oliver Florence; and one great great grandson, Colter Corbett; several beloved nieces and nephews.

Polly was a member of Hebron Baptist Church in Dacula, GA but attended First Baptist Church Lake Park since moving to the area in 2020.

Polly remained healthy and active until the last year of her life, including planting flowers and raking those detested leaves.

A funeral service for Polly will be held at 3pm on Saturday, April 13, 2024 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at a later date. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2-3pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Lake Park or American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be shared at www.mclanecares.com.
