Ximena Holcombe

December 18, 1933 — March 12, 2023

Ximena Redmond Holcombe, 89, of Valdosta passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023. She was born on December 18, 1933, in Thomas County, Georgia to the late Richard and Kathleen Redmond. She grew up in Pelham, Georgia where her parents moved shortly after her birth. She graduated from Pelham High School where she played basketball and was a cheerleader.

In 1951, she married her loving husband, John Toole Holcombe. They moved to Valdosta, Georgia where they raised their two sons, John, Jr. and Richard Nelson Holcombe, whom she adored. She was a member of First Baptist Church where the family has been active members through the years.

When both boys were in school, she continued her education at Valdosta State College where she received a BS in Education. She taught math for five years at Valdosta Jr. High and Lowndes Jr. High. She then went to Lowndes High to teach the gifted students for ten years. After getting her Masters, she became the counselor at Lanier County High School for the next ten years until retiring. Having received her State Professional Counselors License, retirement didn't last long as Lowndes County Behavioral Health Services called and asked her to work part time, which she did for five years. She loved every aspect of her career, but most of all she loved her students and missed them after retirement.

She was president of the Magnolia Garden Club, treasurer of the Garden Center, Inc., and served on the board of the Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. She was an avid fisherwoman and member of the Ocean Pond Fishing Club, where she won prizes in tournaments on a few occasions. She enjoyed playing Duplicate Bridge and loved to read. She was also one of the Atlanta Braves most loyal fans.

Mrs. Holcombe is survived by her son, Richard Holcombe, and two grandsons, John T. Holcombe, Ill and Daniel Redmond Holcombe. She was preceded in death by her husband of seventy-one years, John T. Holcombe Sr., son John T. Holcombe Jr., daughter-in-law, Kimberly Miley Holcombe, and brother, James Redmond.

The family wishes to thank her special caregiver, Missy Beck.
