Winston M. Cooper, 89, of Valdosta died suddenly on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at South Georgia Medical Center, just three days after the death of his wife of 52 years, Margaret. Mr. Cooper was born in Athens to the late Winston M. & Emma Cooper. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy and was a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology. Mr. Cooper worked for many years at Georgia Power Company, having worked as Superintendent of District Operations just prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Exchange Club, the Georgia Power Co. Ambassadors, Citizens of Georgia Power Co. and on the Board of Directors of the Salvation Army. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter in law, David and Faith Cooper of Lawrenceville, two grandchildren, Caroline Cooper and Kevin Cooper both of Lawrenceville, a sister in law, Mary Cooper or Nashville, TN, and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Cooper; two sisters, Orene Cooper & Nadine Cooper; and three brothers, Robert Cooper, Raiford Cooper and Clyde Cooper.
Funeral services for both Mr. & Mrs. Cooper will be held at 10am, Wednesday, April 1, 2009 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Mason, Jr. officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2pm, Wednesday at Midway Church Cemetery in Gardi, GA. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 until 9pm.
