Wilma Whitley Bennett Cowart, 77, of Gordonsville, Virginia and formerly of Valdosta died on Monday, November 5, 2012 at The Laurels of Charlottesville in Charlottesville, Virginia following several years of declining health. She was born on December 2, 1934 in Waycross, Georgia to the late Jesse and Lillie Harris Whitley. She was self-employed in the child care industry and was a member of Morningside Baptist Church
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Teresa Mann of Havelock, North Carolina; a daughter, Rebecca Wolf of Gordonsville, Virginia; granddaughters, Brittany and Jacob Richardson and Marra Wolf of Gordonsville, Virginia; grandsons, Timothy and Travis Mann of Havelock, North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Leo, Lucan, and Chloe Richardson of Gordonsville, Virginia; a step-son, Dale Cowart of Tennessee; a step-daughter, Pat Kelly of Thomasville, Georgia; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marion Halstead of East Liverpool, Ohio, Roberta and Cyle Brunson and Phyllis and James Shaw all of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, George Franklin Bennett, and Jairus L. Cowart.
Services for Wilma Whitley Bennett Cowart will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 9, 2012 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Wayne Roberson officiating. The burial will follow in the Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
