Wilma Jean “Jeanie” Payton, 66, of Valdosta, passed away on Thursday January 16, 2025. She was born to the late William G. Evatt and Beatrice L. Evatt in Tampa, FL on January 28, 1958. Jeanie loved spending special time with her family. She enjoyed working in the family business, Sealright Sealing and Striping, and going fishing in the grass flats. Jeanie was married to her husband, Danny Payton, for 38 years. They shared a special bond together. They especially enjoyed going on various adventures on their motorcycle. Jeanie loved any and all things Elvis. She was even known as a child for getting in trouble for trying to contact him at Graceland on many occasions. Jeanie was a wonderful caretaker and an amazing cook. She was especially known for her delicious carrot cake.
Jeanie is survived by her husband, Danny L. Payton of Valdosta; 5 children, Terry L. Hope of Oviedo, FL, Danny Payton Jr. “DJ” of Elizabethtown, KY, Teresa M. Hope of Roswell, GA, Beatrice J. Lott of Valdosta, GA, and Danette J. Evans of Valdosta, GA; 2 sisters, Pamela S. Bercaw and Tammy D. Taylor, both of Zephyrhills, FL; 1 brother, Andrew Evatt of Zephyrhills, FL; 17 grandkids; and several great grandkids.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William G. Evatt and Beatrice L. Evatt; and 3 children, Leigh Ann Haynes, Jeanette L. Hope, and Belinda K. Payton.
A graveside service for Jeanie will be held at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Valdosta, GA on Tuesday January 21, 2025 at 11am. Online condolences to the family may be shared at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.
