Wilma Gaston Ellington, 91, of Valdosta, passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2018. She was born on March 2, 1927 to the late Franklin Estay Gaston and Eva Ethel Zipperer Gaston. Born in Pinetta, the youngest of eight children, Wilma learned to work hard, get the job done quickly and do it right the first time! She attended Oak Hill School, a one room community school. She then attended Pinetta School where she graduated in 1945. She was well known for her delicious country cooking and generous hospitality, from invited guests, the Schwan's man, a UPS delivery man to anyone who knocked on her door at any time of the day. Wilma was a faithful member of Pinetta Baptist Church where she made certain the tables were laden with food whether for church functions or funerals for neighbors and friends. She kept a huge garden, feeding her family and neighbors.
Wilma married Paul Ellington in 1947 and they were happily married for fifty-three years until his death in 2000. She was a loving mother to her four children, Rodney, Byron, Donnie and Marcia. She shared her love with a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren who all love their Granny!
A funeral service for Mrs. Ellington will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 5, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Pinetta with Reverend Tommy Bussey and Brother Michael Bass officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Horeb Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta.
