William (Willy) Meindl, 80, of Valdosta, died on Monday, March 16, 2009 at his home after a long illness. Born on August 30, 1928, in Furth, Germany, he was the son of William and Barbara Wise Meindl. He served in the German Navy. Mr. Meindl owned and operated Willy's Hofbrauhaus, a landmark Valdosta restaurant. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Survivors are his wife, Ursula Anna Werner Meindl of Valdosta; six daughters, Petri Chandler, Elona O'blisk, Marion Turner of Valdosta, Viola Williams of Starke, Florida, Ramona Fox, Ursula Hodges of Valdosta; a son, Arnold Meindl of Valdosta; fifteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Meindl.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2009, at 12:10 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Father Dan O'Connell will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. A rosary will be held at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the rosary.
