William Thomas Upchurch, Jr.

June 18, 1955 — April 24, 2009

WILLIAM THOMAS “TOMMY” UPCHURCH, JR., 53, of Clyattville, passed away Friday, April 24, 2009, at home after a short illness. He was born on June 18, 1955 in Valdosta a son of Leona Carter Upchurch and the late William Thomas Upchurch, Sr.

Tommy was a lifelong resident of Clyattville, and attended Valdosta State University while working at Texturetex. Tommy later was manager of the cafeteria at Owens-Illinois Paper Mill. He attended Lake Park Church of Christ, was faithful, devoted, and loved his God and Jesus. Tommy loved his parents and over the years was able to care for them at home. He loved his nieces and nephews, and enjoyed reading, fishing, watching the Braves, writing poetry, and listening to music. Tommy loved people and enjoyed helping those in need and having friendships with them.

In addition to his mother, Leona Carter Upchurch, he is survived by two sisters, Fran Upchurch and husband Irvin Coody, and Susan and husband James Moore, all of Clyattville; three brothers, Nat and wife Tina Harris of St. Simon, Raymond and wife Sarah Upchurch, and Leb and wife Debbie Upchurch, all of Clyattville; aunts and uncles, Lowell and Patsy Upchurch, Margaret Newton, Carolyn Upchurch, Liz Upchurch, Pafford and Debbie Carter, Flora and Chuck Warren, Susie and Roy Hooper, Shirley and Wallace Davis, Pearly and Walter Davis, Dick Carter and Greta Carter; nieces and nephews, Shannon Upchurch, Katherine Upchurch, Taylor Upchurch, Sarah Moore, Paul Moore, Maggie Moore, Allison Moore, Nat Jr. and Sharie Harris; special friend, Stella and all the wonderful people from South Georgia Hospice and The Cancer Center.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2009, in the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. Bill Newcomb officiating. Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Tommy’s memory to a Hospice or charity of your choice.
