William L. “Bill” Hunter, 64, of Valdosta, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2017. He was born on July 11, 1953 in Abbeville, GA to the late James and Vera Mae Dunagan Hunter. Bill was of Baptist faith. He was a good husband, father, and papa. He was well known for his mechanic skills and built race cars. He was crew chief for Hodges motor sports for a number of years. He loved the outdoors and fishing.
He is survived by his wife Sandra Kay Hunter, his son Billy (Suzanne) Hunter both of Valdosta, his daughter Chris (Danny) Rogers of Ocilla, and his son Buck Welch of Valdosta, his grandchildren Abby Hunter, Will Hunter, Carson Welch, Jacey Welch, Katelyn Esparza, Kandace Lott, and Kai Kilbury, two brothers-in-law Ervin (Margaret) Wood, and Bill (Diane) Wood, one sister-in-law Dale (David) Hodges, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Peggy Hunter and Joyce Smith.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane funeral home with Reverend Chuck Taylor and Brother Jack Justice officiating. Interment will be at Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery, Abbeville, at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 25, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
