William Kenneth George, 90, passed away on October 30, 2023. “George” was born on March 27, 1933 to Augustus Franklin George and Annie Mae George in Cross Anchor, Spartanburg County, South Carolina. He grew up in Waycross, Georgia and was an outstanding athlete and track star for his high school. He was married to the former Mattie Lou (“Lucy”) George, who preceded him in death. He served two years in the U.S. Army in Fort Huachuca, Arizona, and then worked his entire career for CSX Railroad as a Signalman all across South Georgia and North Florida. He was a long-time member of Northside Baptist Church in Valdosta, Georgia.
In addition to his wife and parents, George was preceded in death by his brother Charles George of Fort Walton Beach, Florida and his sister Lucille Bailey of Jonesboro, Georgia. George is survived by daughters, Beth Cleveland (Frank), Alice Coats (Mike), and Laura Kulp (Gordon), grandchildren Leslie Dobbs (Jared), Allen Cleveland (Sarah), Andrew Coats (Holly), Shealy Register (Kyle), Caroline Coats, Harrison Kulp (Katie), Emily Coats, and Austin Kulp (Madison). George and Lucy also had four great grandsons: Anderson Craig, Gus Craig, Henry Cleveland, and Hudson Cleveland. He is also survived by his best buddy,
Charlie and several nieces and nephews.
George absolutely loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and bird-watching. He and Lucy had the greatest and world’s most loyal friends throughout life and his family is most grateful to these special friends and neighbors who loved him and counted him as one of their own.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 1:00 PM with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 PM in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, memorials made to Northside Baptist Church, 200 E. Park Avenue, Valdosta, GA 31602, would help to honor the memory of Ken and Lucy George.
