William Jennings "Bill" Holland, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at the age of 83. He was born in Brewton, AL on April 2, 1934 to the late Bessie Mae & Marvin Houston Holland. He attended Troy University from 1952 to 1956 where he played football for the Troy Trojans and met the love of his life Mary Jean Whaley.
After graduation from college, he worked for Goodyear Tire and Auto as the Store Manager in Thomasville, Elberton and Milledgeville, Ga. He moved to Valdosta in 1965 and purchased the Sinclair Gasoline Distributorship in Valdosta, which became Holland Oil Company. He settled here with his family and became a vital part of the Valdosta Community for the next several generations. In 1981, he served as the President of the Valdosta Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce and served on the Valdosta -Lowndes County Industrial Authority for 10 years in the 1980's and 1990's. In 1982, he started a used oil recycling facility which became known as Georgia Petroleum, Inc. which he continued until his passing. He has been a member of the Georgia Oilman's Association for the past 50 years. He was the President of the Elberton Jaycees, a member of the Valdosta Rotary Club, Valdosta Elks Club and the Valdosta Touchdown Club.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf with his friends and has been an active sportsman and a member of the First Baptist Church and his Sunday School Class with some of his dearest friends.
Survivors include his three daughters and sons in law, Karen & Richard Reissiger of Valdosta, Pam & Bo Woodward of Valdosta, and Lisa & Jamie Harris of Orlando; his son and daughter in law, William E. "Bill" & Marie Holland of Valdosta; eleven grandchildren, Eric (Adrienne) Reissiger, Cal Reissiger, Shelly (Patrick) Golden, Chase Woodward, Troy Woodward, Colby Harris, Brent (Michele) Harris, Trav (Marnie) Harris, Elizabeth (Benton) Graves, Haley Jane Holland and William Holland. Also surviving are three great grandchildren, Paisley Reissiger, Wesley Marie Harris and Reynolds Harris and several nieces and nephews, together with special family friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jean Holland, and two brothers, Jack Holland and Marvin Holland.
The funeral for Mr. Holland will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at First Baptist Church. A private interment will be held with the family at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Rev. Mack Weaver will officiate. The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church family life center on Thursday afternoon from 1 until 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or First Baptist Church.
