Mr. William Horace Cannady, 83, of Valdosta, departed this life on July 16, 2009 to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Horace was born January 20, 1926 in Nashville, to the late William Wesley and Barzilla Whitley Cannady. He grew up in Berrien County before entering into the U.S. Army, where he served as a Dietician Cook while in Japan during World War II. He later married his first wife, Evelyn, and together they had his first two children, Earl and Vivian. Horace was later remarried to Elsie Rose O’Neal and together they had a son, Ronnie. Horace had been employed in the Instrument Shop and Moody A.F.B., later as a machinist with Thompson Industries, and lastly, for 10 years as a machinist at Owens-Illinois.
Mr. Cannady was a longtime member of Open Bible Baptist Church where he came to know Christ. In his spare time he loved to fish, hunt and do gardening.
In addition to his wife of 43 years, Elsie Rose Cannady, he is survived by his children and their spouses: Earl Sr. and Linda Cannady of Nashville, Vivian and Roger Waters of Thomasville, and Ronnie and Stephanie Cannady of Statenville; one stepson: Edward J. Terrell of Biloxi, MS; his grandchildren: Christopher Waters and Tony Waters of Thomasville, and Monifea Dickerson and Earl Cannady, Jr. of Jacksonville; eleven great-grandchildren; two special friends: Pamela Dawson and Sue Moore of Valdosta. He was predeceased by five sisters, Alice Mays, Elsie Yawn, Mildred Henderson, Etta Hopson, and Myrtice Smith, and by three brothers, Algie, John and Rich Cannady.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm Saturday, July 18, 2009, at the Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Carroll Joye officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Cannady’s family will receive friends in the Mausoleum Chapel from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Saturday, prior to the services.
