William Elbert Futch, 98, of Valdosta, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024. He was born on March 31, 1926, in Cook County, to the late Irwin Mitchell Futch and Mattie Stalvey Futch. Mr. Futch served in the U.S. Army for 3 years during the Korean conflict and was awarded two bronze stars and one “V” for valor. He then worked in plant operations at Valdosta State University for more than 15 years. He was an outstanding cook and was affectionately known as “Little Papa” to his grandchildren. He really loved to take his family fishing and enjoyed working in his yard. A loving father and husband, he was married for 66 years to Glenda McCrary Futch until her passing. Mr. Futch was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan, “Go Dawgs!’
Mr. Futch will be remembered by his daughter, Pam Futch, of Woodstock, GA, daughter, Kathy Roberts (Lewis), of White, GA, granddaughter, Nikki Gibson (Kevin), of Beggs, OK; great grandchildren, Justin Robichaux, of Marksville, LA, Alissa Robichaux, of White, GA, Robyn Miller, Brad Miller, and Trevor Miller, all of Beggs, OK; great great-granddaughters, Riley Robichaux, of White, GA, and Lily Robichaux, of Tyrone, GA; a great great-grandson, Hunter Robichaux, of Tyrone, GA. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Jackie McCrary and Ruth Futch.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda McCrary Futch, his parents, four sisters and six brothers.
A funeral service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Gary Woods officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10am. Burial will follow at Sparks Cemetery.
