William Daniel Parris, Jr. (Dan)
Dan Parris, age 81, passed away on June 30, 2021, at Langdale Hospice House. He was born on June 22, 1940, in Bristol, Virginia to William Daniel Parris, Sr. and Lucille G. Parris. He graduated from Greeneville, Tennessee High School in 1958 where he played basketball and tennis. He entered VA Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia where he alternated his studies with working for architects in Greeneville and Blacksburg and Valdosta. Upon his graduation in June 1966, he and his wife, Nancy, moved to Valdosta where he began a successful career in Architecture. He was one of the founding partners of IPG Inc. Architects and Planners.
He was an active member of Valdosta First Baptist Church for 40 years where he served his Lord in various capacities including that of ordained deacon. Since 2006 he has been a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church. He was an accomplished painter and lover of the arts, including visual arts and music of many genres. He enjoyed playing golf and tennis and was an avid outdoorsman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy, his son Jon Daniel Parris, his grandson, Jakob Daniel Parris, his brother and sister-in-law Phillip and Deb Parris, his nephew, Scott Parris, his sister-in-law Joann Harris, his nieces, Karen Sorah, Janet Drish, Jennifer Curtis and their families of the Virginia/Tennessee Tri Cities area.
Funeral services for Mr. Parris will be held at 2pm on Saturday, July 3, 2021, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Jimmy Towson, Reverend David Tart both of Park Avenue United Methodist Church and Reverend Mac Weaver of Valdosta First Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-2pm. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Condolences to the family may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
