William Clinton Barrineau, 84 of Valdosta, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at South Georgia Medical Center following a stroke. Born on July 19, 1921 in Rochelle, he was the son of the late William Bryon and Adra Barrineau. He was raised and attended school in Alapaha. Upon graduation he entered the United States Navy in 1939 where he proudly served his country during World War II and in the following years until 1960 when he retired. Upon returning to civilian life, he started employment with the Georgia Department of Labor where he served as manager and then field deputy until his retirement in 1984. He joined Park Avenue United Methodist Church in 1960 where he served on various committees, as a lay speaker, Sunday school teacher in the Christian Homebuilders class, and church historian until his failing health forced him out of these positions.
He is survived by his wife, Clare Dismuke Barrineau of Valdosta; son, Byron Britt Barrineau of Carrollton; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn (Dee Dee) and William Girardin of Lake Park; three grandchildren, Michael Wayne Cargile and Eidson Thomas Cargile of Lake Park, Melissa Sheets Worton and her husband Chris and four children of Covington; sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and L. O. Gaskins, brothers and sister-in-law, Harry and Martha Barrineau, Everett Barrineau all of Tifton; sister-in-law, Ann Chapman and her husband Robert of Ludowici and four nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Wayne Barrineau, Glenburn Barrineau, William Byron Barrineau, Jr. and Edwin Britton Barrineau and his sister, Edith Barrineau.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2006 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Craig Rikard and Rev. V. L. Daughtery officiating. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery in Nashville. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Park Avenue United Methodist Church Building Fund or your favorite charity.
