William (Chic) Garren, 83, of Valdosta died on Monday, April 29, 2013 at Crestwood Nursing Home following a brief illness. Chic was born on August 26, 1929 in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania to the late John and Jennie Messersmith Garren. He was retired from the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict and served three tours in Viet Nam. Chic was also a member of the First Assembly of God in Valdosta.
Survivors includes a sister, Alice Mantegno of Quarryville, PA; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Shirley Garren of Mountain Top, PA; a sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Leon Sawicki of East Rutherford, NJ; a brother and sister-in-law, Harvey and Marie Garren of Mountain Top, PA.; a sister, Doris Ferry of Wilkes Barre, PA.; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys J. Garren and his son, Michael E. Garren.
A graveside service for Chic Garren will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens with Rev. Ron Nichols and Rev. Bill Cotterill officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Carson McLane Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
