Obit on William Candler “Dub” Tomlinson, Jr.

William Candler “Dub” Tomlinson, Jr., 75, of Echols County died on Sunday, March 5, 2006 after a lengthy illness. Mr. Tomlinson was the son of the late William Candler Sr. and Eula Mae Peterson Tomlinson and was retired from the Langdale Company. He was a U.S. Army veteran who was stationed at Walter Reed Hospital during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Tomlinson was also a bandleader for the Suwanee River Troubadours for over 40 years. He was a songwriter and recording artist best known for his song “Molly Come Home.” He became a published author in his 70’s with his best known works including “A Lad in the Piney Woods”, and “The Old Blue Barrow.” He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Mayday.

Survivors include his wife, Lula Bell Tomlinson; one daughter, Patricia A. Tomlinson; one son and daughter-in-law, William Candler III and Barbara Tomlinson all of Echols Country; one daughter-in-law, Marilyn Boatright Tomlinson of Alma, Ga.; five grandchildren, Will and Jason Tomlinson of San Diego, Ca., Tyler and Payton Tomlinson of Echols County, and Stacey Brill of Kansas; one great-grandchild, L.J. Tomlinson of San Diego, Ca.; one sister, Lorene Phillips Fry of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Tomlinson was preceded in death by a son, Darrell A. Tomlinson; three sisters, Dorothy Tomlinson Fielding, Eula Mae Bass, and Winnie Faye Jolley.

Funeral Services for Mr. Tomlinson will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 in the chapel of McLane Lakewood Funeral Home with Reverend Marvin Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Hebron Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Jasper, Fl. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening at McLane Lakewood Funeral Home.
