William Alex Riggs, 92, of Valdosta, died at his home on Tuesday, October 16, 2007. Born near New Bern, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Avis Susan Hardison and William Mack Riggs. He was married to Laura Alligood for 57 years until her death in 1993. He retired after 41 years from Life and Casualty Insurance Company in 1980.
Mr. Riggs was an active member of First Baptist Church in Valdosta where he taught the Men’s Bible Class for more than 20 years. He was a member of the Valdosta American Legion Post 13 and The Valdosta-Lowndes Historical Society.
Survivors include: his wife, Kathleen (Kathy) Taylor Riggs of Valdosta; sons and daughters-in-law, David Bryan Riggs of Peachtree City, William Mack, Sr. and Ann H. Riggs of Kennesaw, Frederick Martin, Sr. and Jean B. Riggs of Mission Viejo, California; grandchildren, Michael Ann and Richard C. Bellerjeau of Woodstock, William Mack, Jr., and Allison C. Riggs of Henderson, Nevada, Frederick Martin, Jr. and Laura B. Riggs of Santa Monica, California, Victor William and Renee C. Riggs of Morgantown, West Virginia, Randall Alan and Rita H. Riggs of Woodstock; great grandchildren, Amber Lee and John Richard Bellerjeau, William Zachary and Daniel Craven Riggs, Frederick Martin (Derick), Brandon Baxter Riggs, and Christian Ian Riggs, Abigail Renee, Kathryn Jean Riggs, Irene Victoria and Caroline Victoria Riggs, Elizabeth Emily (Lily) and Joseph Alex Riggs. Also surviving are stepchildren, William J., Sr. and Jenelda Taylor, and Cynthia L. Taylor; step grandchildren, Justin L. and Jarrod D. Peeples, and William J. Taylor, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Music Department of First Baptist Church of Valdosta.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at First Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. with Dr. Phil West and Reverend Mack Weaver officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
