Will Davis (Bill) Burgsteiner

March 24, 1922 — April 18, 2005

Will Davis (Bill) Burgsteiner, 83 of Valdosta died on Monday, April 18, 2005 at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness. Born on March 24, 1922 in Berrien County, he was the son of the late Kirk and Ola Burgsteiner. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Valdosta High School and served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the European Theatre of Operations having flown fighters in the 370th Fighter Squadron in the 359th Fighter Group in the 8th Air Force earning the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Silver Star and other awards. He was a member of The Daedaliana, The VFW, The American Legion, The Sons of the American Revolution and member of the Valdosta County Club and was a Mason.

He is survived by his wife, Edwina Burgsteiner of Valdosta who he would have celebrated 60 years of marriage with on June 12, 2005; a son and daughter-in-law, Butch and Jane Burgsteiner of Valdosta; a granddaughter Tracy and her husband Marty Jones of Atlanta; two great grandsons, Davis Jones and Dylan Jones of Atlanta; sister and brother-in-law, Kathryn Burgsteiner and L. E. Stevens of Valdosta; a sister-in-law, LaQuita and Tim Tschetter of Pompano Beach, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Will Burgsteiner.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2005 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Phil West officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
