(Whit) James Grovene Webb

October 25, 1912 — February 22, 2005

“Whit” James Grovene Webb, 92, of Hahira, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Holly Hill Nursing Home Tuesday morning, February 22, 2005. He was born in Hahira on October 25, 1912 to the late Ira and Mattie Roundtree Webb who will welcome him into God’s kingdom of everlasting life. His brothers Gene and Earl and sister Carrie Lou Hamilton have been waiting for him. He leaves his wife of seventy years, Allie Guess Webb of Hahira, whom he knew all along the journey of dementia. He knew his daughter “Pat” Patricia Webb Edwards and he knew she loved him dearly. He also leaves his son in law, Major General Jay T. Edwards Ret., of Oklahoma City, OK and leaves a wonderful legacy of three grandchildren, Whit and Rosie Edwards of Oklahoma City, OK, Linda Edwards McNabb and Lynn McNabb of Round Rock, TX, Lisa Edwards Reynolds and Rob Reynolds of North Royalton, OH, seven great grandchildren, Blair Edwards, Haley Dennison, Jay Edwards, Ross McNabb, Dana McNabb, Joey Reynolds, Julie Reynolds, all knew him and loved him. Thanks be to God. There is so much to say about such a long life but the most important is, he was a good man who loved the Lord and his church, the Hahira United Methodist Church. The family thanks the entire staff of Holly Hill Nursing Home for the excellent loving care he received there for the past seven years.

Whit was retired from the United States Postal Service and an Army veteran. He is also survived by two sisters in law, Mary Webb of Waynesville, NC, Phoebie Slocum of Valdosta, two brothers in law and sisters in law, William and Mary Guess and Donald and Ann Guess of Morven, his dog Princess, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held Friday, March 4, 2005 at three p. m. in the Hahira United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the social hall. Condolences to the family may be expressed online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.

Flowers will be appreciated or gifts in his honor may be made to the Hahira United Methodist Church.
