Wendell Bernard Johnson, 90, of Quitman and formerly of Valdosta died Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at the Presbyterian Home. He was born on September 13, 1922 in Elkhart, Indiana, a son of the late Bernard Johnson and the late Hazel Goiens Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a retired engineer with the Veterans Administration and a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II. Mr. Johnson was also a member of the American Legion and NARFE Chapter 1044.
Survivors include his wife, Amelia Johnson of Quitman, son and daughter in law, Victor and Bennie Johnson of Stockton, Calif., granddaughter, Victoria Portia of Richmond, Calif., grandson, Russell Johnson of Stockton, Calif., nieces, Patricia Johnson, Stephanie Johnson, Debbie and Mark Snelleberger all of Elkhart, IN, Vicki Johnson and Michelle Johnson, nephews, Rev. Jamie Johnson, Wendell Johnson and Darryl Johnson, his brother, Arthur Johnson of Valdosta, stepson, Alton Daggs of Valdosta, stepdaughters, Delores Page of New Orleans, LA, Shirley Bellazain of Richmond, Calif., Audrey Mitchell of Elkhart, IN., grandchildren, Elisa and Larry Mays, Sr. of Turlock, Calif., Alton, Jr. and Monica Daggs, of Manteca, Calif., Aaron Mitchell of Oakland, CA, Jimmy Mitchell of Richmond, CA, Steven and Sara Mitchell all of Elkhart, IN., Pamela Page, Connie Jackson, Sharon Lynn and Rick Ewing, Vanessa and Bryce Keith of Indianapolis, IN, Sherrie Bellazain of Pinole, Calif., Teressa Bellazain of Virginia, great grandchildren, Larry Mays, Jr. of Turlock, Calif., Brandon Daggs and Monisha Daggs of Virginia, great niece, Tiffani and Jason Pryor and numerous other family members. He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Richard Johnson, Roger Johnson and Victor Johnson.
Funeral mass will be held at 11am, Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Ray Levreault officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. A rosary will be held at 5pm, Monday, September 2, 2013 at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
