Warren Harold Ray, 89, of Valdosta passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2014. He was born in Cordele, GA on January 6, 1925 to the late Richard Carsey and Nannie McKinney Ray. Mr. Ray was a proud United States Navy veteran and participated in WWII, Vietnam, and the Korean War before retiring as a Master Chief. After retirement, Mr. Ray began his teaching career and was instrumental in building the A/C maintenance program at Valdosta Technical School. He was a member of the American Legion and the Fleet Reserve. Mr. Ray was of the Baptist faith.
Warren Ray is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Bill Darsey of Lakeland, GA; One son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Libby Ray of Valdosta; Six grandchildren, Charlotte and Brad Hamm of Tifton, GA, Hal and Lynn Darsey of Lakeland, GA, Roddie Ray of Valdosta, Kyle and Brittany Ray of Valdosta, April and Greg Reid of Savannah, GA, and Michael Kirkland of Hahira, GA; Seven great grandchildren, Cannon Darsey of Lakeland, GA, Addison and Cooper Reid both of Savannah, GA, Blayden, Braidy, Benelli, and Taylor Ray all of Valdosta, GA; His special friend and caretaker, Della Johnson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ray was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Audriss Ray and five brothers.
Graveside services for Warren Ray will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 28, 2014 at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
