Ward C. Crosby, 86, of Valdosta died Sunday, January 31, 2010 at the McGraw Community Hospice in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born in Lakeland on August 30, 1923 to the late Dewey and Pinky Ward Crosby and had lived in this area before moving to Jacksonville in 1950 and upon his retirement moved back to Valdosta in 1989 and then returned to Jacksonville in 2003 after the death of his wife, Lilllian. Mr. Crosby was a retired building contractor and attended Victory Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army and received two bronze stars. He loved taking care of his family and enjoyed stock car racing.
Survivors include two daughters and sons in law, Patricia and Roger Maurice, Lavon and John McDowell all of Jacksonville, Fla., four grandchildren, Rick (Beth) Tshudy, David (Ali) Tshudy, Dale R. Turnbull, Jr. and Kimberley (Gene) Manor, six great grandchildren, Jarrod Tshudy, Drew Tshudy, Lesley Manor, Tyler Manor, Ben Tshudy and Justin Tshudy, brother in law and sister in law, Norman and Willie Pearl Eunice of Quitman, his nephew, Roy (Alice) Hughes, great nephews, Troy Hughes and Heath Hughes, great great nephew, Addison Hughes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Eunice Crosby and a brother, Elbert Hughes.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Wednesday, February 3, 2010 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Steve Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
