Wanda Nowland Deweese

Wanda Nowland DeWeese, 51, of Valdosta/Dasher, died at her home on Tuesday, April 14, 2015. Born on March 14, 1964, in Talladega, Alabama, she was the daughter of Brenda Gayle Finley Nowland and the late Willie Blaine Nowland. Mrs. DeWeese was employed as a Financial Aid Counselor at Valdosta State University. Previously a member of Central Avenue Church of Christ, she was currently a member of Dasher Church of Christ where she was involved with children's ministries, including a puppet ministry and helping with church website management.
A 1982 graduate of Anniston High School, Wanda went on to Faulkner University and received a Business Administration Degree. While at Faulkner she met "Chuck" and they were married after graduation on June 17, 1989. After moving to Valdosta Wanda started to work at VSU and began a career that would span 25 years, eventually becoming the Hope Scholarship Coordinator. During High School she worked as an assistant Brownie Leader and continued volunteering throughout her life as a Girl Scout Leader. Wanda was devoted to her family and she was an advocate, supporter and volunteer for Georgia Christian School. Oh, and one more thing…….Roll Tide!
Survivors are her husband, Charles "Chuck" DeWeese, Jr. of Dasher; daughter, Madison DeWeese of Dasher; her mom, Gayle Nowland of Lineville, Alabama; brothers and sister in law, Scott and Sharon Nowland, Roger Nowland, David Nowland all of Lineville, Alabama; sisters in law and brothers in law, Daphne and Tim Warren of Tifton, Christy and Jay Kilcrease of Lake Park; father in law and mother in law, Charles and Judy DeWeese of Dasher; nieces and nephews, Lee and Marjie Nowland, Justin, Angela and Austin Nowland, Krislynn and Katie Nowland, Sadie Nowland, Mason and Gavin Warren, Jake Kilcrease.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2015, at Dasher Church of Christ. Mr. David Nelson will officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
