W.A. (Bill) Mayne

August 29, 1932 — July 27, 2010

W.A. (Bill) Mayne, USAF SSgt. (Ret.), 77, of Valdosta, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness.

Bill was born August 29, 1932 in Valdosta, a son of the late Arthur Mayne and the late Willie Mae Patten. He graduated from Valdosta High School with the Class of 1949 and attended Valdosta State College before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. During his enlistment he had been stationed throughout the world. Following his retirement after twenty years of dedicated service, he returned to Valdosta and was employed with the U.S. Postal Service at the N. Patterson St. office, later retiring.

Mr. Mayne loved the outdoors, reading, fishing, golf, and the company of his many friends.

He is survived by three daughters, Debbie Kelly of Colorado, Lorrie Pitts of Texas, and Valerie Brock of Arkansas; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Bobby J. Mayne and wife Ann of Fernandina Beach, FL; and one sister, Carolyn Graff and husband Bobby of Live Oak, FL.

A Graveside Memorial Service for Mr. Mayne will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2010 at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com. Carson McLane Funeral Home.
