Viva Hardy Evans

Viva Hardy Evans, age 84, died Sunday, Nov. 2, at Pierce County Nursing Home in Blackshear, GA. She was born October 10, 1924, in Bibb County, one of six children of the late Benjamin and Philomena Rocquemore Hardy.
She had lived in Valdosta since 1958 and at her beloved home on Cherokee Avenue since 1965. For the last two years of her life she was a resident of Fellowship Home near Valdosta. A long-time member of Lee Street Baptist Church, she had been in recent years a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Valdosta, GA and was very active there in the senior adults group Charlie's Angels. Viva retired in 1989 from Sears-Roebuck, where she had been employed for 24 years.
Viva's husband, Russell Van Evans, died in 1966. Her oldest son, Kenneth Russell (Ken), died in 1981. She is survived by three sons: Terry (wife Marian) Evans of Blackshear; Randy Evans of Orange, TX; and Lynn Evans of Macon, GA. Her three grandchildren are Julie Rechtin (husband Chris) of Wellington, FL; Sandy Burgess (husband Brian) of Stuart, FL; and Kyler Fyffe (husband Ryan) of Blackshear. Her great grandchildren are Sandy and Brian's almost-5-year-old daughter, Julianna, and Kyler and Ryan's 3-year-old son, Asher. Viva's sister Helen Kilgore lives in Gray, GA, and her brother Jim (wife Sarah) Hardy lives in Macon.
A funeral service for Viva will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2008, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Charlie Scarbrough will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time. Viva's burial will be beside her husband, R.V., in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Valdosta. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Viva's memory to the Senior Adult Ministry of Crossroads Baptist Church, 3001 Country Club Dr. Valdosta, GA 31602.
