Virginia Walker

Virginia Walker, 88, of Valdosta, passed away Friday, January 13, 2012, at Lakehaven Nursing Home.

She was born September 28, 1923 in Hahira, a daughter of the late William D. and Vira Moody Vickers. For twelve years she was Secretary for David Wainer, Sr., and for fifty years operated Walkers Garden Center. Mrs. Walker was a Charter Member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church.

Her greatest joy in life was her family; her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Walker was passionate about plants, flowers, gardening and landscaping and enjoyed sharing her joy of gardening with others. She loved her customers and loved helping them beautify their yards and worlds. She loved the Lord and loved ministering and caring for people through gardening. She was well known for her expert gardening advice.

Mrs. Walker is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Sammy Zipperer of Valdosta; one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Faye Walker of Hahira; five grandchildren, Elijah NeeSmith of Athens, Rachael Harrington of Valdosta, Michael Zipperer of Athens, Sam L. Zipperer of Athens, and Donna Browning of Atlanta; four great-grandchildren, Brendan NeeSmith, Zeno Harrington IV, Jacob Zipperer and Emma Zipperer, all of Valdosta; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dalton Walker; brother, Bill Vickers; and sister, Wynell Vickers.

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Walker will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2012, in the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Rev. David Tart officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
