VIRGINIA TOLBERT RYAN, 84, of Valdosta and formerly of Tallahassee, Fla. and Franklin, North Carolina died Thursday, July 7, 2005. She was born in Moultrie, Georgia to the late Dr. Carl L. and Hattie Chapman Tolbert and lived in Tallahassee for fifty years before moving to Valdosta several months ago. Mrs. Ryan was a graduate of Tift County High School, ABAC and Hunter College in New York and was a Navy Wave serving with the United States Navy during World War II. She joined the Navy because she was the first in her family to be eligible to serve in the military. Mrs. Ryan was a Methodist.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Larry Ryan of Valdosta whom she met while serving in the U. S. Navy, one daughter and son in law, Harriett and Joe Hester of Valdosta, four grandchildren, Charley Hester of Valdosta, Kevin Ryan, Bobby Ryan and Leslie Ryan all of Tallahassee, Fla., three great grandchildren, Breanna Hester, Emma Hester both of Valdosta and Jonathan Ryan of Tallahassee, Fla. She was preceded in death by three sons, Bud Ryan, Jim Ryan, and Patrick Ryan and a daughter, Peachie Ryan all of Tallahassee, Fla.
Mrs. Ryan will be cremated and a private memorial service will be held at a later date in the Omega, Georgia Cemetery. Donations may be made to Odyssey Hospice, 1001 Williams St., Valdosta, GA 31602.
