Mrs. Virginia Ruth Bracy O'Neal, 86, of Valdosta, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at her residence in Valdosta of an extended illness. "Bracy", as she was known, enjoyed a life centered around her faith in God, her family, her love of music and her love of country.
Born to the late Rex and Hazel Bracy of Norwalk, Ohio, she was preceded in death by her parents as well as by her sister Lois Bracy Strutton Pardee and two brothers, Carroll Bracy and Burton Bracy. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Neal O'Neal, daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Stan Bearden of Gainesville, son, Neal O'Neal, Jr., of Valdosta and two grandsons, Andrew Bearden of Dawsonville, and Jordan Bearden of Gainesville.
Bracy enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was subsequently commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. A Valdosta resident since 1967 she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she sang in the church choir. She was a former Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader and was one of the original supporters for the National Monument to service women. Bracy was known for her "famous" fudge. She was an avid gardener and an animal lover who supported the USASPCA for many years.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 25, 2012 at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Valdosta. Reverend John Akers will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of choice.
