Virginia Ives Cochran, 86, of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Langdale Hospice House following a brief illness. Born in Valdosta on July 16, 1923, Mrs. Cochran was the daughter of the late Joel (Joe) Abner Ives and the late Maggie V. Groover Ives. She was a lifelong resident of Lowndes County and was employed by Western Union as District Bookkeeper, Cashier and Service Representative. A member of Forest Park Church of Christ, she served as a faithful elder's wife for many years. She also served as Treasurer of the Georgia Bible Camp Ladies Council for a number of years. The Pan American Bible School, now known as Latin American Missions Bible School was dedicated in honor of her late husband, Glenn Bradford Cochran, Sr., and herself.
Survivors are her children and their spouses, Brad and Carol Cochran of Americus, Charles and Ginny Cochran of Chattanooga, TN, Rebecca and Bobby Glisson of Valdosta; brother, Billy Ives and friend, Betty Jones of Steinhatchee, FL; grandchildren, Julie (Drew) Kizer of Leeds, AL, Joel Cochran of Memphis, TN, Jon and Rachel Cochran of Chattanooga, TN, Dana (Tim) Parrish of McMinnville, TN, Rick (Lauren) Cochran of Troy, AL; great grandchildren, Samuel Parrish and Laura Grace Parrish of McMinnville, TN, Ava Kizer and Jackson Kizer of Leeds, Benjamin Cochran of Troy, AL. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Cochran is also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, Joel Groover Ives, Charles Douglas Ives, Doris Nell Eldridge and Martha Louise Wilson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 27, 2009, at Forest Park Church of Christ. Mr. Charles Cochran and Mr. Ray Joyner will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. Donations may be made to the Latin American Missions at Forest Park Church of Christ or flowers will be accepted.
