Virginia Hart Rykard, 87, of Hahira, died Thursday, June 26, 2008 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born in Waycross, GA on September 27, 1920 to the late Leslie Lee and Florence Hazel West Hart. Mrs. Rykard was retired from Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph, a member of First Baptist Church where she served as church hostess, worked at W. G. Nunn Elementary School as a teachers aide, was a member of the Azalea City Garden Club and the Telephone Pioneers.
Mrs. Rykard is survived by two sons and one daughter in law, Ronnie Rykard of Hahira, Roger and Wanda Rykard of Iron City, one son in law, King Clayton of Donalsonville, six grandchildren and their spouses, Ashley and Shona Rykard, Adam Rykard, Mitzi and William Brown, Stacy and Alan Frith, Amy and Charlie Walsh, Stephanie and Brad Spooner, ten great grandchildren, one sister, Florine King of Bainbridge, nieces and nephews, Elydia Ann Stiefel, Curtis and Vicki King, David Vickers, several great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Arrondal Rykard, Sr., one daughter, Leslie Ann Clayton, two sisters, Blanche H. Vickers and Leslie Hart Stiefel, and one brother, William S. Hart.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 29, 2008 at two p. m. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Phil West and Reverend Ron Hatchett officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. She will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time. The family will receive friends from six until eight p. m. Saturday at the funeral home.
