Virginia C. “Jenny” Wisenbaker, 87, of Valdosta, died on Monday, September 24, 2018 after a lengthy illness. Born on February 12, 1931 to the late Charlie & Rosa Lee Crosby in Brooks County, she had been a lifelong resident of this area. She graduated from Morven High School in the late 1940’s and then went to Georgia State Women’s College, which became Valdosta State College before her graduation. She went on later in life to achieve other advanced degrees from the University of Georgia in Education and Counseling. Mrs. Wisenbaker began her career in education at Sand Hill School in Brooks County and then in the late 1950’s she moved over to Lowndes County. She taught in the Lowndes County Schools for over 10 years before moving to Valdosta High School as a Counselor. She served as a Guidance Counselor for 18 years before her retirement in 1988 as the Director. She also loved traveling with her family, all over North America, including the 50 states and Europe as well. Entertaining family and friends was also a favorite pastime, but her true love was fishing. She loved fishing with a passion that no one in the family could match. Mrs. Wisenbaker was a member of Central Avenue Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband of almost 65 years, Jamie Wisenbaker of Valdosta, a daughter and son in law, Jill & Russell Lawler of Jacksonville, FL; a son and daughter in law, Jason & Beth Wisenbaker of Valdosta and a daughter Joni Wisenbaker of Covington. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Alexander (Hannah) Lawler of Mandeville, LA and Maggie Wisenbaker of Valdosta; two great grandchildren, Caroline Lawler and Samuel Lawler, both of Mandeville, LA and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral for Mrs. Wisenbaker will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 27, 2018 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Mr. John Klimko will officiate. Burial will follow at Dasher Cemetery.
