Virginia Burns Patten, 93, died Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Haven Hospice in Orange Park, Florida after a lengthy illness. She was born in Carroll County, Georgia on December 4, 1922 to the late Joseph Alfred and Georgia Dee Moore Burns.She and her husband moved to Valdosta in 1948 and resided in Valdosta until moving to Albany in 1996. Virginia retired from Sears Department store in Valdosta where she worked as a sales manager. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Valdosta and Porterfield United Methodist Church in Albany. She was a member of the Garden Clubs of Valdosta and Albany and was a past president of Valdosta Quota Club, and served with Junior Service League of Valdosta. Virginia was also a State Flower Show Judge and the Magnolia District Director for State Garden Clubs of Georgia. She loved working and serving with the WMU at First Methodist of Valdosta and Porterfield United Methodist Church in Albany and was a lifelong member of that organization.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Dee and Dan Carter of Middleburg, Florida, and Anne and Ron Fraser of Albany, Georgia; four grandchildren Russell Carter of Jacksonville, Florida, Deanne Carter of Ft. Worth, Texas, David Fraser of Albany, Georgia, and Joseph and Megan Fraser of San Francisco, California; three Great Grandchildren Sophie Grace, Liam, and Henry Fraser. She was preceded in death by her husband James Russell Patten, Sr. and two sons James Russell Patten, Jr. and Joseph Edgar Patten.
Funeral services for Virginia Burns Patten will be held Friday, October 7, 2016 at 12 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. William E. Collins officiating. The interment will follow the services in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
