Virginia Ann Bell, 89, of Valdosta, passed away at Lakehaven Nursing Home on Monday, February 19, 2018. The daughter of the late Roy Wisenbaker and Maybell Carroll Wisenbaker Johnson, she was born in Valdosta on April 4, 1928. A retired substitute teacher, Mrs. Bell had worked with both the Lowndes County and Valdosta City School systems. At the age of 75, Virginia proudly graduated from Troy State University with a Bachelor’s Degree. An avid reader and an accomplished seamstress, she enjoyed embroidery and needlework. A member of Central Church of Christ, she loved to sing, work in her garden and ride horses.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George Riley Bell, and her siblings, Cecil Wisenbaker, Garland Wisenbaker, Louise Lowry, Kathleen Anderson, Roy Wisenbaker, Jr., and Carroll Wisenbaker, Virginia is survived by her children, Crystel and Walter Collier of Waverly, Tennessee, Sylvia Emfinger of Foley, Alabama, Susan and Dan Wilmer of Valdosta, James and Debbie Johnson of Palm Harbor, Florida, Carolyn Gillis of Valdosta; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and twenty eight great great grandchildren. Virginia is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Van Matre of Valdosta and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held at Copeland Cemetery on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Mr. Fleming Bell will officiate. The family will gather and receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
