Victor Jerome Belote departed this life on April 15, 2011, in Jacksonville, Florida. A native of Dublin he spent most of his adult life in Jacksonville and Dade City, Florida, and St. Simons Island. He was active in sports at Dublin High School and played on the 1963 State Football Championship Team. He attended the University of Georgia where he played football and was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He worked in the lumber and timber business throughout his life and was the President and CEO of Agri-Timber Inc. from 1978 – 1992. Mr. Belote attended Riverside Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, Florida.
Victor Belote is survived and mourned by his two daughters, Stephanie Hensley and Suzette Reeves; two brothers, Mike and Reggie Belote, and sister, Billie Pitts; grandchildren, Chloe and Gabriel Hensley and Paul, Susannah and Sarabeth Reeves; sisters-in-law, Connie Belote and Joanne Belote; sons-in-law, Brett Hensley and Matt Reeves; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death in recent years by his parents, Dorothy Pinholster Belote and William Fisher Belote.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2011, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at Wayfare Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery located on Highway 129 at Howell Road, Mayday, GA., in Echols County. Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, also at Carson McLane Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers are Duncan Newkirk, Dee Newkirk, Lee Eggert, Stanley Johnson and Charlie Garbutt. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Riverside Presbyterian Church-Local Missions, 849 Park Street, Jacksonville, FL 32204.
