Vertis Cauthan Shirley, 92, of Macclenny, FL and formerly of Statenville died Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born on January 13, 1923 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama and had lived in Echols and Lowndes Counties before moving to Macclenny, Florida. Mrs. Shirley was a Church of God minister and a nurse. She had a radio ministry in the 1950's in Valdosta and was still doing speaking engagements until recently. Mrs. Shirley enjoyed crafts and flowers.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons in law, Reba McDonald of Lake Park, GA, Verma Jean and Maitland Dampier, Darlene and Tom Loveless all of Bryceville, FL; her grandchildren and their spouses, Rusty McDonald, Dale and Amy McDonald, Cindy and Dale Boyd, Melody Bell, Chip and Pam Dampier, La Chanda and David Wolfe, Amber and Jason Edenfield, Josh Gibson, Chad Gibson and his fiancé, Marissa, Jacob Loveless; 20-great grandchildren, 11-great great grandchildren; sister and brother in law, Carolyn Chesnutt of Rogersville, TN; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Rena Cauthan; husband, Frank Shirley, son in law, Russell Bobby McDonald, great grandson, Tony Colter, sister and brothers in law, Eva Mae and Carl Willis, Charles Chesnutt, brothers and sisters in law, D. C. and Edrith Cauthan, Grady and Doris Cauthan, Vester and Mildred Cauthan, Henry Cauthan, Edward and Micki Cauthan.
