Vernon "Pep" Culpepper, 81, of Echols County died Sunday, May 7, 2017 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on March 20, 1936 in Echols County to the late James Euell and Cuba Kinsey Culpepper and was a lifelong resident of Echols County. Mr. Culpepper was a graduate of Echols County High School and a member of the Bethel Church of God. He retired as a mechanic machinist from Nekoosa Packaging Company and had forty three years of millwright experience. Mr. Culpepper was a master plumber, electrician and heating and cooling mechanic. He served in the National Guard and served also as Echols County Surveyor, Echols County Justice of Peace and Echols County Constable. Mr. Culpepper was the founder of Alapahoochee Historic Farm/Heritage Days.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Karen Weldon, Teresa and David Powell, Louie and Janet Culpepper all of Echols County; his grandchildren, Lynette (Dave) Anderson, Crystal Culpepper and her fiance' Justin Bates, Brandi (Justin) Corbett, Michael (Mandy) Weldon, Jordan Culpepper; his great grandchildren, Savannah Anderson, Madison Corbett, Averie Anderson, Emma Kate Darling, Maci Corbett, Wade Weldon; his sisters and brothers in law, Nell and Lavaughn Hughes, Elaine Henderson, Sandy and Jim Rentz; sister in law, Faye Culpepper; brother in law, Lloyd Wheeler; the mother of his children and her husband, Ann and Walt Taylor. He was preceded in death by a brother, Brooks Culpepper, a sister, LuVerne Wheeler and a son in law, Steve Weldon, a brother in law, W. R. Henderson.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at the Bethel Church of God with Rev. Daryl Pate, Rev. Wayne Hughes and Rev. Mike Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Kinsey Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8pm at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home in Lake Park.
