Vernon E. Cain

Vernon E. Cain, 77, of Hahira died Sunday, July 3, 2011 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born in Lowndes County on March 30, 1934 to the late Earnest C. and Inell Hall Cain and was a lifelong resident of Lowndes County. Mr. Cain was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and teacher. He and his wife owned and operated the Cain Jewelry Store in Hahira for many years and he retired as an supervisor/enumerator with NASDA with more than thirty years of service. Mr. Cain was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of the American Legion. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Jean R. Cain of Hahira, three sons and daughters in law, Rodney V. and Karen Cain of Hahira, Rusty A. and Lee Cain of Quitman, Jason C. and Mitzi Cain of Hahira, seven grandchildren, Cameron Cain, Courtney Cain, Jasey Cain, Justin V. Cain, R. Dustin Cain, Charlee Ruth Cain and Case Cain, two sisters and a brother in law, Patricia Jones of Jacksonville, Fla., Diane and John Wenzel of Orange Park, Fla., sister in law, Sarah Register of Hahira, his aunt, Ruby Lee Arnold of Valdosta, step mother in law, Willie Mae Register of Hahira, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents in law, Dock and Charley Ruth Register, three brothers in law and sister in law, Jerome and Lucille Register, Mack Register, Hollis Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 3pm, Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at the Bethany Baptist Church with Dr. Clyde Stokes officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethany Cemetery. Mr. Cain will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
