Vernon C. Henry, 88, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, July 15, 2007, after a short illness. Born in Knoxville, TN to the late John Hammond and Mamie Cox Henry, he lived in Knoxville until he moved to Valdosta in 1950 with the Southern Railway Company. Mr. Henry retired from Southern Railway after 35 years in the early 1980’s. He was a member of Ousley Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Peggy & David Adams of Valdosta; three grandchildren, Bryan Adams, Stephen Adams, and Parker Adams, all of Valdosta. Also surviving are a niece and four nephews, Carolyn H. Overby, Jimmy Henry, both of Johnson City, TN, George (Sue) Powell, Jr. of Miami, FL, Kenneth (Dewey) Powell, of Panama City, FL and David M. Sims of Hahira, and a special cousin, Jack (Liz) Henry of Chattanooga, TN. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jewell Henry and a brother John H. Henry.
Funeral services for Mr. Henry will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Clyde Stokes will officiate. Burial will follow at Ousley Baptist Church Cemetery.
