Verne Wingert May, 94, of Lake Park died at Tidewell Hospice in Venice, Florida on Thursday evening, August 5, 2010. He was born on January 11, 1916, in Tipton, Iowa, son of the late John and Cornelia Elizabeth MacKnight May. Formerly of Farmington, Michigan, Mr. May was previously in sales for Motorola and Zenith. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He Later Became a pilot and loved to fly. Verne and his beloved wife, Lee, had made their home at Francis Lake for many years. He was a member of the Valdosta Yacht Club, Francis Lake Golf Course, and the North Florida South Georgia Sr. Golf League. He was a long time member and Elder of Twin Lakes Presbyterian Church. His true passion was sharing his gift of music with others. He was a loving grandfather and was extremely proud of his grandchildren.
Survivors are his son, Richard L. May and Jacqui of Deerfield Beach, Florida, daughter and son in law, Diane L. and George E. Thomas of Sarasota, Florida; grandchildren, Todd May, Tracey Willis, Leslee Donovan, Kristin Smith, Jennifer Christenson and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home, Valdosta. Reverend John Akers will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
