Verne Martin Griffin

Verne Martin Griffin, 86, of Hahira died Sunday, August 23, 2015 at her home. She was born in Salisbury, North Carolina on May 18, 1929 to the late James Ryce, Sr. and Mary Cornelia "Nell" Smith Martin and had lived in this area most of her life. Mrs. Griffin was a member of the Hahira United Methodist Church and a retired school teacher having taught at Hahira Elementary School for thirty three years. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who dedicated her life to supporting her children and grandchildren in all of their activities. The family would like to thank the Hahira United Methodist Church members, entrusted friends and neighbors for their love and support throughout her life.
Survivors include two daughters and sons in law, Nancy and Doug Weldon of Hahira, Becky and Bart Shuman of Hahira; her grandchildren and their spouses, Keely and Martin Paramo, Haley Radcliff, Lindsey and John Fuller, Scott Shuman, Sloan Shuman and Seth Shuman; her great grandchildren, Liam Paramo and Ladd Paramo; a devoted niece, Brenda Freeman and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry W. Griffin; three brothers and sisters in law, Dick and Betty Sue Martin, A. B. "Sonny" and Sue Martin, Jack and Clois Martin, two sisters and brothers in law, Connie and Frank Crane, Dottie and Roland Berry.
Graveside services will be held at 10am, Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at the Sunset Hill Cemetery with Rev. Mike Davis and Mr. Owen Miller officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8pm at the Martin/McLane Funeral Home in Hahira. Memorials may be made to the Hahira United Methodist Church, 100 E. Stanfill St., Hahira, GA 31632.
