Verna Mae Horne Hodge, 90, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the Suwanee Valley Nursing Center following a period of declining health. She was born on August 19, 1934, in Sabula, Iowa to the late Ervin Paul and Adeline Cosman Harmsen. Mrs. Hodge was retired from the Hamilton County Health Department in Jasper, Florida as a registered nurse. She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Valdosta. Mrs. Hodge served on the Suwannee/Hamilton Vocational Tech School Advisory Board, was a member of the Women’s Club of Jasper, and the Kiwanis Club of Jasper, and volunteered for the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Hodge is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Linnette Horne of Jackson, Tennessee and Mike and Cindy Horne of Valdosta; her grandchildren and their spouses, Aaron and Casey Horne of Valdosta, Kristin and Ryan Blount of Clarksville, TN, Ashely and Jordyn Horne of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Jeremiah Horne of Henderson, TN, and Elle Vester of Jackson, TN; 14 great-grandchildren; her sister, Mary Kay Peterson of Cottage Grove, Minnesota; her brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Vicki Harmsen of Clinton, Iowa; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded by two husbands, James Edward Horne and Hobart Alexander Hodge.
The visitation for Verna Horne Hodge is on hold to consider weather related concerns and will be announced by Carson McLane Funeral Home.
