Verla Avis Stafford George, 88, of Valdosta, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2017 at her home. Verla was born on October 5, 1928 in Jewels, Iowa to the late Allen Russell Stafford and Elsie Elizabeth Caroline Reinke Stafford. She had worked as a teacher in Clinton, Iowa and as a Reservationist for Eastern Airlines in Chicago, IL where she met her husband Randall. She was a loving wife and mother. Verla was an active and devoted member of Messiah Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School Director and President of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
Verla is survived by her husband of 55 years, Randall E. George, her children, Rhonda & Francis Kolarits of Canton, OH, Terri Morgan of Dallas, GA, Toni & Douglas Smith of Dallas, GA, Randall Allen George of Stockton, GA, her grandchildren, Alexander Smith, Elizabeth George, Randall James George, Andrew Kolarits, Rachel Kolarits, Glenn Smith, her great grandchild, Rylan Lee Morgan, her sister-in-law, Janet Stafford of Des Moines, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Norman and his wife Betty Stafford of New Haven, CT and Port Charlotte, FL, and Rodney Stafford of Urbandale, IA, a grandson, Justin Morgan.
Funeral services for Mrs. Verla George will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church. Pastor Frank Kinast will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Quitman. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the church.
