Verdie Jones Carter, 91, of Valdosta, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2019 at her residence. She was born in Perrine, FL, on December 5, 1928 to the late Irvin and Verdie Duggan Jones. She was a lifelong member of Central Avenue Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday school for over 30 years. She loved reading especially her bible, which she read daily up until her death.
Mrs. Carter is survived by her two daughters Denise Gooden, of TX, and Leigh Carter of Valdosta; her grandsons, Lance (Alexa) Gooden, of TX, Ken (Rachel) Lawlor, and Will Lawlor, both of Valdosta; her three great grandchildren Liam Gooden, Milla Gooden, both of TX, and Kinsley Lawlor, of Valdosta; and a sister Francine (Orrie) Coppage, of Valdosta. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward (Bernard) Carter, sisters Audrey Peters, Iva Parker, a brother Irvin Jones, Jr., and son-in-law Tom (Ed) Gooden.
Graveside services for Mrs. Carter will be held at on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Dasher Cemetery with Mr. John Klimko officiating.
