Vera Akers Johnson, 98, of Valdosta, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness. Born in Salem, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Claude Bryan Akers and Edith Woolwine Akers. Vera was very involved in the community. She served as a Pink Lady at South Georgia Medical Center for many years and was active in PEO. She loved golf and was active in the Valdosta Country Club Ladies Golf Association, having held many offices there. A very sweet southern lady, she was generous and kind to all she met and was devoted to her family. Vera was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and the Joy Fidelis Sunday School Class.
Survivors are her son and daughter in law, Joseph and Jenny Johnson of Valdosta; daughter and son in law, Susan Johnson and Bill Whitfield of Evergreen, Colorado; grandchildren, Laura (Tim) Keller, Lyn (Sonia) Johnson, Dickie (Keira) Johnson of Valdosta, Bryan (Ansley) Johnson of Savannah, Elizabeth Whitfield (James) Sharpe of Broomfield, Colorado, Matthew Johnson of Valdosta, Katie Johnson (Ben) Clary of Albany; twelve great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren; and a sister, Jackie Akers of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Vera was preceded in death by a son, Charles Bryan Johnson.
A graveside funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Reverend Mack Weaver will officiate.
