Velma Smith, 80, of Valdosta, died on Friday, November 6, 2020 at Langdale Hospice House surrounded by her family. She was born on June 18, 1940 in Pearson, Georgia to the late Robert E. and Miriam S. Bazemore. She was a member of Enoch Creek Church and was retired from S&H Fabrication. She was a homemaker who loved gardening, sewing, and knitting.
She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Beadie Smith and George Rowan of Valdosta, Cheryl and Jeff Waldron of Valdosta, Sandra and Tim Maxwell of Kernersville, North Carolina, Linda and Doug Hughes of Valdosta; a son, Daryl and Tracy Smith of Hahira; nine grandchildren, Zack Maxwell, Ryan Nastasi, Jenna Maxwell, Dustin Hughes, Megan Hughes, Kasey Waldron, Sara Grace Maxwell, Lolli Smith, and Cooper Smith; four great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Linda Bazemore of Lake Park; a sister, Betty Bazemore of St. Clair, Michigan; a sister-in-law, Helen Bazemore of Douglas, Georgia; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Smith, and a brother, Robert L. Bazemore.
Services for Velma Smith will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 9, 2020 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Zach Corbett and Rev Mickey Corbett officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the funeral home. The burial will be in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
