Vela Conner Dean

Vela Conner Dean, 92, of Marietta, and former long time resident of Valdosta, passed away on May 30, 2011 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, after a brief illness. Born in Ravens Ford, North Carolina, on September 29, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Horace Newell Conner and Fannie Jane Nations Conner. Mrs. Dean was raised in the Smoky Mountains.

Preceded in death by her husband Albert Lawton Dean, Sr. of Valdosta, survivors include her children, Albert Lawton Dean, Jr. and Lou Ellen Dean of Atlanta, Dr. John Newell Dean and Caroline Dean of Asheville, NC, and Debbie Dean Temple of Atlanta,; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren whom she adored; and a brother, Delmer Conner of Cleveland, Tennessee.

Services will be held Saturday June 4, 2011 at 11 am at Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Reverend Mac Weaver of the First Baptist Church of Valdosta will officiate. Mrs. Dean will be entombed in the mausoleum next to her husband. The family will greet friends at the mausoleum following the services.
