Lamar and Varana made their home in Echols County on the McLeod Homeplace near Lake Park, Georgia. Varana was the oldest living resident of Echols County and the oldest living member of Wright's Chapel United Methodist Church and was a very active member while her health allowed it. Varana was a homemaker and worked along her husband's side on the family farm.
Varana and Lamar had five sons; Richard, Edward, Russell, Raymond and Harold and one daughter, Peggy. Varana had 15
grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Varana had a keen sense of humor and always had an answer for anyone who would talk to her. She was an avid quilter and made numerous quilts giving each of her children two and each grandchild one when they married. When her children were young, she loved to go to Long Branch after a day of working in the fields with her family to fish and then come home to cook the fish for her family. When anyone came to her house she immediately began preparing the next meal to be shared with her guests. She loved the outdoors and gardening.
Varana was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her two sisters, Louise Corbett Carter and Bobbie Corbett Toland, two sons: Morris Richard McLeod and Cleveland Edward McLeod and one grandchild, William Charles Cribb McLeod.
