Lawrence James Fontaine, USAF Maj. (Ret), 83, of Valdosta passed away at his home on September 3, 2015. He was born October 4, 1931 in Quincy, MA to the late Lester Harold and Cecile Marie Couture Fontaine. He proudly served in the United State Air Force as a pilot for 24 years. In his spare time he enjoyed playing the trumpet and listening to big band music. He also had a love for motorcycles and cars. Mr. Fontaine loved his family and was a good and dedicated father and husband.
Mr. Fontaine is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cecelia and Kenny Chinn of Jacksonville, FL; a son, Douglas Fontaine of Valdosta; a son and daughter-in-law David and Barbara Fontaine of Valdosta; daughters and sons-in law, Laura and Tim Bellamy of Valdosta, Susan and Dale Brewster of Dalton, GA and Catherine and Bill Beiswenger of Colorado Springs, CO; a son and daughter-in-law Michael and Tanya Fontaine of Lake Park; he is also survived by nineteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law Catherine and Vincent Giardini of Franklin, MA; two nieces and two nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Alice Bess Fontaine, a son, Stephen Fontaine, two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 7, 2015 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Quitman, GA.
